The NAB releases begin – Canon’s new 4:2:2 HD Camera

Canon finally joins the tapeless professional market with the new XF305 and 300.  Canon has a very loyal following and tends to see what the rest of the market it doing before it responds.

The headline for these cameras is the new codec that they’ve developed – 4:2:2 MXF @ 50mb/sec.  What does that mean for you?  Better HD video that you would get with HDV level products.

Canon has gone out of the way to see that this new codec is supported by Apple, Avid, Adobe and others.  The 305 add HD-SDI, genlock and timecode I/O.  It records onto Compact Flash media, giving you up to 160 minutes at 50mb/s on a 64GB card.
